Clients scripts that send out mail need to be adjusted.

05/08/2010 11:28

Clients running scripts that generate email need to make the following change due to security changes.

Sending mail method "SMTP"

SMTP host: localhost

Use username and password: Yes

Username: a valid email address associated with the domain that is tied to the domain
Password: the password for that email address.

Ie. sending mail from domain "dshost.com.au" you would use username of staffmember@dshost.com.au and the password associated with that staffmember.

If you have made these changes and are still having difficulties please contact our support staff so that we can invesitage further.

This has been a security upgrade prevents hackers from uploading scripts from compromised clients and sending out emails on behalf of a domain that they do not know the password to.  This is a spam prevention method and was introduced in May 2010 but we have delayed its introduction to allow our clients to fix website settings to reflect the required change.

Change will happen 1st Sept 2010.

We appologise to our clients who were affected since last week 1st Aug 2010 as we were not aware of the impact of this change and have since restored the setting to pre-upgrade.

Thankyou,
